Family Concerns About the Alcohol Addicted Relative

Hello Friends,

Wallace Mason (1952-2011):  Husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, best friend.  Talented self-employed carpenter and electrician.  Made friends everywhere that he goes because of his outgoing personality and infectious smile.  He loved to make people laugh!  This was my brother-in-law, he is gone too soon.

Emma B. Miller (1923-1982):  Wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, best friend.  Degreed Registered Nurse (Industrial nursing, High School nurse, Psychriatric nursing, Surgical nursing, Lead Floor Nurse), Graduate of Cosmatology School (owner of her own salon from 1950's to 1980); Hero...I saw her rush to save a baby's life at a resturant when the mother couldn't stop the child from choking on food.  This was my Grandmother...I still dream about her because I miss her so much...she never met my husband or my children.

James Miller, Jr. (1923-1985):  Father, brother, uncle, best-friend.  Worked as Lead foreman at the same steel mill for over 30 years.  World War II veteran, loved big band jazz and his dogs (he took them everywhere with him to everyone's dismay---lol)!  He traveled around the world with his wife before he let alcohol destroy their marriage.  After divorce, my uncle lived a lonely life filled with daily drinking...we found him at home alone, lying on his sofa with his dog "Champ" a large German Sheppard sitting by his side...he had passed about 2 days before we found him.  This was my Great uncle on my Grandfather's side...we all loved Uncle Jimmy.

I had to write this blog in memorial to my loved ones who have passed on from illnesses due to Alcohol Addiction.  You don't call persons addicted to marijuana "Marijuana-holics" or people addicted to cocaine, methamphetamine, or any other drug "????-holics".  The term "Alcoholic" seems too acceptable to me.

Consuming alcoholic beverages daily in large amounts can destroy the health of the person who uses this legalized drug, but it also causes harm to those who love them up close (especially children and spouses).  Please read the article written by me that is linked to this post.  Afterwards, feel free to leave your comments about your experience with this problem that causes dysfunction in many people's lives.

Our recent loss has caused my family to consider the damage that drinking alcohol has done to our lives...the emptiness left in your heart from missing your loved ones is not a hole that can be filled.

God bless you and your family.

Kimberly
